Beekeeping is dealt with on all continents except Antarctica. Industrial specialized beekeeping with highly mechanized apiaries has developed in the U.S.A., Canada, Australia (the average yield of commercial honey in these countries is 20-40 kg per hive). Development of international relations between beekeepers is promoted by the International Federation of Beekeepers' Associations “Apimondia” (“Apimondia”, founded in 1897) organizing symposiums, congresses, exhibitions. An important role in sharing of experiences is played by magazines: «Apiacta» (agency of «Apimondia» since 1966), «American Bee Journal» since 1861, «Gleanings in Bee Culture» since 1872, published in the U.S.A. “Apimondia” is intended to promote scientific, environmental, social and economic development of the beekeeping industry in all countries of the world, as well as to organize cooperation between beekeepers associations, academic organizations and private entrepreneurs in the field of beekeeping.

Outstanding personalities that were engaged in beekeeping

Many well-known personalities bred bees or still breed bees as a hobby. These are:

Aristotle – a Greek philosopher and scientist, the founder of formal logic;

Thomas Edison - a world-renowned American inventor;

Russian writer L.N. Tolstoy and chemist A.M. Butlerov. For example, Butlerov have written several interesting studies on beekeeping;

Bill Gates - the founder of Microsoft and one of the richest people according to Forbes magazine.

National peculiarities - Expeditions

This section presents the materials of the expeditions to various corners of the earth the purpose of which was to study the traditions of the local beekeeping. Members of the expedition were experts of the "Tentorium Apicompany", the general partner of WSBF e.V., and representatives of the Fund.
